The antenna improved my reception by one bar but nothing earth shattering. The cord is not long enough to actually get the antenna in a place where it could make a huge difference. I would pass on this items and go for something with a longer cord.
I'm particularly happy with TIVO throughput since I can now watch YouTube videos and download from Amazon without a problem. My router is in the second story of my house and I wanted better reception and throughput for my computers on the first level of the house and for my TIVO in the family room. While these may not seem to be amazing results, I'm not surprized. I looked at lots of solutions and this one seemed like a good place to start-- not too expensive. I had modest expectations.Altogether, the antenna and a little router "tweaking" gave me about a 20%-25% improvement in reception and speed. The improvements are mostly the result of being able to get the antennal up high and eliminate going through one wall. While I started out thinking this was not going to be my final solution, I've decided to stand pat with this solution for now.
I am using this connected to a D-Link DWA-552 desktop adapter and I am getting my signal from a D-Link DIR-655. Great solution for a weak signal.
I recieved the Xtreme N 2.4GHZ antenna today and in a couple of seconds had it working. My signal strength went from "very low" to "very good".
Yes, it really works. I put the Antenna on my desk and now I can even get some of my neighbors networks.
The only problem is the cord is a little short which I already knew from another reviewer. Thanks.
Thanks. Works great.
My NIC antennas were in an awkward spot before and this extension is just enough to give me a more direct line of sight. It does the job. It's not a huge improvement, but a marginal one, just as others have stated. My signal strength went from the 70%s to the 90%s, and I haven't had any more spontaneous log-offs as I had before. So it was worth it for me, just don't expect a miracle.
Great product. I added this to the router I got to reposition and extend the range. I can "see" the SSID from places I could not before. Great buy.
